Plasma TVs and Flat Screen TV Technologies

Welcome to plasma-and-flat-screen-tv.com. Up until the mid-nineties, buying a television was a much simpler task than it is today. Back then, the only main stream TV technology was the cathode ray tube (CRT). But due to grate advances in technology, today not only do we have the dazzling and fabulously thin plasma TV panels, but also several other flat screen TV technologies.

Today's technological choices for large (and small) flat screen TV sets include liquid crystal display (LCD) television, plasma TV, rear projection TV, front projection TV, DLP TV, and yes these days even the good old CRT based television screens can be made perfectly flat and fairly large.

Many flat screen TV technologies continue to sell because no one technology provides a complete advantage over all other technologies. For example, plasma TVs have a great picture, and they are very thin, but are still extremely expensive. Rear projection TVs are reasonably priced and can have very large screens, but are more bulky than plasma TV sets and their picture quality is not as good.

To make things even more complicated, choice of flat screen TV technology is not the only thing to worry about when considering a new television. There are also several TV signal types and formats such as analog, digital, and HDTV. Some televisions can show HDTV signals, but are not actually HDTVs. Furthermore, television screens come in different resolutions and aspect rations (ratio between width and length). Of course, having all these flat screen TV technologies at our disposal is a good thing.

It is the intended purpose of this Web site to help you sort through all this "TV mess", and learn something about television technology and the companies that make them.
